*Mrs. Dunbar will be presenting at ISTE 2015 - The International Society of Technology in Education - on May 30, 2015!
*Mrs. Dunbar will be presenting at CUE 2015 - Computer Using Educators - in Palm Springs, CA, on March 20, 2015.
*Mrs. Dunbar will be teaching Technology 110 at Teachers College of San Joaquin in the Fall of 2014 and the Spring of 2015.
*Mrs. Dunbar was asked back to be a featured presenter at the 2015 CTA Good Teaching Conference North in San Jose, CA.
*Mrs. Dunbar continues to serve on the Superintendent's Technology Committee, who this year are Embracing the Race to Go Digital in 2015. Mrs. Dunbar has been leading the Digital Citizenship portion of MUSD's Embrace the Race project by creating a series of instructional videos on Digital Citizenship which can be found on the Manteca Unified School District's YouTube page.
*Mrs. Dunbar taught Genius Hour at the 2014 San Joaquin County Office of Education's Migrant Summer Camp!
*Mrs. Dunbar will be teaching Technology 110 at Teachers College of San Joaquin in April 2014.
*Mrs. Dunbar was a featured presenter at the 2014 CTA Good Teaching Conference North in San Jose, CA, January 10-12, 2014. Mrs. Dunbar presented two sessions entitled "Teacher Geek is Common Core Chic!" and had more than 100 attendees!
*Mrs. Dunbar was a featured presenter at CapCUE, the first annual Computer Using Educators' Conference in Sacramento! About 200 educators attended the event, and her session of "Teacher Geek is Common Core Chic!" had 49 attendees!
*Mrs. Dunbar was invited to serve on the Technology Committee at Teachers College of San Joaquin.
*Mrs. Dunbar continues to serve on the Steering Committee and chairing the sub-committee for K-5 Math for the Manteca Unified School District's Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Transition Committee and the Manteca Unified Superintendent's Technology Committee. She is also serving on the Lincoln School Site Council as chairperson and is the Lincoln Intermediate Grade Level leader.
*Mrs. Dunbar was the first graduate of Teachers College of San Joaquin to receive her Masters of Education in S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Graduation ceremonies took place at Stockton's Bob Hope Theatre on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at 1:30 p.m.
*Mrs. Dunbar is serving on the Steering Committee and chairing the sub-committee for K-5 Math for the Manteca Unified School District's Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Transition Committee. The committee will help create the focus and direction for MUSD's CCSS implementation.
*Mrs. Dunbar started her new website: TeacherGeekisChic.com! It offers tips and tricks for integrating technology into the classroom as well as advice, references and lots of great information about what's new in the world of educational technology!
*Mrs. Dunbar presented a "Teacher Geek is Common Core Chic" workshop at the Third Annual California Subject Matters Project Conference at CSU Monterey Bay Saturday, February 9, 2013.
*Mrs. Dunbar continues to serve on the Manteca Unified Superintendent's Technology Committee as well as on the Lincoln School Site Council as secretary. She is also the Lincoln Intermediate Grade Level leader.
*Mrs. Dunbar was invited to be an iPad trainer for Manteca Unified School District. She will train teachers and administrators who have recently gotten iPads to show them how to maximize its use as well as some tips and tricks!
*Mr. & Mrs. Dunbar were both inducted into the San Joaquin County Academic Decathlon Hall of Fame on February 4, 2012, at the annual SJCOE Academic Decathlon event in Stockton, CA. She and Mr. Dunbar have been judged academic competitions for more than ten years, and have also led the training of essay readers for Academic Pentathlon for the past eight years. They both received honorary gold medals.
*Mrs. Dunbar presented at the Second Annual California Subject Matter Project Conference at Monterey Peninsula College Saturday, October 15 2011. Her topic was "iCan Differentiate!" which showcased not only how to bring more technology into the classroom, but how to use it to reach more learners. The accompanying website is HERE.
*Mrs. Dunbar was asked to serve on the Manteca Unified School District's Superintendent's Technology Committee! She also is serving on the Lincoln Elementary School's School Site Council as secretary and is the Lincoln Intermediate grade level leader.
*Mrs. Dunbar is the first student enrolled in the Masters of Educational Technology course of study at Teachers College of San Joaquin!
*Mrs. Dunbar received an Award for "Professional Development Excellence" from the California International Studies Project. Presenter Dianne Bruckner, also the director of the San Joaquin Global Education Project for whom Mrs. Dunbar has presented at many seminars, called Mrs. Dunbar a "Renaissance Woman" who is "accomplished in so many different areas: technology, music, art, science, history and language arts -- just to identify a few."
*Mrs. Dunbar was on the Manteca Unified School District team that wrote the new MUSCrAT curriculum for students who stay at home during Science Camp week. She received a commendation from the MUSD School Board for her contributions.
*Mrs. Dunbar presented a seminar entitled "Water, Water Everywhere: Teaching Fifth Grade Science Standards Fluidly" at the CASEL (Capitol Area Science Education Leaders) Conference "Preparing Students for a Green Future" on January 22, 2011, at the San Joaquin County Office of Education. *The Room Nine Kids & Mrs. Dunbar won the 2010 eInstruction $75,000 Global Classroom Makeover Music Video Contest! Out of 191 music videos from the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Puerto Rico, South Africa and the U.K., the eInstruction panel voted our video Number One in the K-5 segment! We thank all our families and friends who VOTED FOR US! Forty percent of our final score came from your online votes; the other 60% came from a celebrity judging panel. This music video is the result of two months of planning and designing and creating and filming and singing and editing by just about every student in Room Nine! Check it out HERE!
The Manteca Unified School District School Board invited Mrs. Dunbar and The Room Nine Kids to come to their February 2011 meeting where they were honored by Superintendent Jason Messer (see page 11 of the 2/8/2011 Board minutes, under "Superintendent's Report").
*Mrs. Dunbar was one of six mini-grant winners in the Manteca Unified School District's EETT Mini-Grant competition. Her grant earned 30 out of 30 points, giving Room Nine yet another great piece of technology: an iPad!
*Mrs. Dunbar presented two seminars at the California Subject Matter Project at CSU Monterey Bay on Octrober 2, 2010. The first was her popular "Teacher Geek is Chic" and was attended by a third of conference attendees! The second was called "Granting Wishes" and gave teachers and administrators tips and tricks for finding and writing successful grants. She presented both seminars a second time at the first Manteca Unified School District Staff Development Day, January 4, 2011, at Lincoln Elementary School. *Mrs. Dunbar received the 2010 California Subject Matter Projects Teacher Leadership Award from the California International Studies Program for her work with the Asia Institute. The award for international studies recognizes outstanding leadership in teacher education and school improvement efforts. The California Subject Matter Project is a statewide network of K-16 educators providing professional development for elementary and secondary teachers. Dunbar was selected from a five-county region which includes San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Calaveras, Tuolumne and Amador counties.
*Mrs. Dunbar presented a special three-hour break-out session at the 2010 California Subject Matter Projects Educators' Faire at the San Joaquin County Office of Education March 13, 2010. Her presentation was entitled: "Technology in the Content Areas: Teacher Geek is Chic!"
*Mrs. Dunbar wrote a 700+ word essay to help Ms. Kohl win a brand new Xerox printer for Lincoln!
The EETT Grant has provided Room Nine with: a projector, a document reader, a set of 34 classroom wireless laptop computers and a cart in which to keep them as well as 50 hours of professional training for each teacher in the grant (which includes 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th grade teachers of Science). We charted the growth of a cohort of students as they progressed from 4th to 5th grade and from 7th to 8th grade. Science scores went up significantly, both on district Science proficiencies and the STAR Science test!
*Mrs. Dunbar was one of 20 nationwide finalists in the Classworks Story competition. She was presented with a $50 American Express gift card at the Thursday, May 29, Straight "A" Assembly @ 2:15 p.m.
*Congratulations to Mrs. Dunbar who received the Best Buy Teach Award for 2008. The grant will give her $2,000 to spend on technology for Room Nine. Mrs. Dunbar used the grant to purchase: a MacBook laptop computer, a class digital camera, a class digital video camera, a digital voice recorder and a tripod along with the appropriate protective carrying cases.
